Systematics Section Wheeler, Andrew [1], Wilson, C. [2]. Exploring species relationships in a clade of wetland Iris (Iridaceae) using chloroplast and nuclear ribosomal DNA sequence data. Members of section Limniris, series Prismaticae, Laevigatae and Tripetalae comprise a clade of about 20 taxa that are hypothesized to have undergone diverse speciation mechanisms including auto and allopolyploidy as they radiated to wetland habitats across the Northern Hemisphere. Species relationships within this clade were investigated using chloroplast matK, petL-psbE, psbJ-petA, 3’trnV-ndhC and nuclear ribosomal ITS. Phylogenetic analysis reveals species relationships that differ from current classifications and suggest new hypotheses for the diversification of the group. Series Prismaticae is basal to the clade while series Laevigatae and Tripetalae are not monophyletic. Evidence presented also suggests some taxa may not be distinct. Broader Impacts:
