Systematics Section Quedensley, T. Sultan [1], Jansen, Robert K. [2]. Phylogeny of the Roldana-Clade (Asteraceae: Senecioneae): Montane Forest Endemism and Diversity. The Roldana-clade (Asteraceae: Senecioneae) is comprised of 14 genera and approximately 130 species and is mostly distributed in montane forests of Mexico and Guatemala. Over half of this group of species is restricted to relatively narrow geographic montane regions that are threatened from human land use practices and the effects of climate change. The infrageneric relationships within the Roldana-clade are poorly understood and these relationships have previously been addressed only in a morphological framework. An ETS and ITS phylogeny for the group has been reconstructed for 94 species within this clade, providing strong support for infrageneric relationships and moderate to low support for intrageneric relationships.
