Abstract Detail

Broader Impact: Tying Basic Research with Education

Williams, Paul H. [1].

History of Wisconsin Fast Plants.

I will present a brief narrative history of rapid-cycling Brassicas, RCBs, from their inception as a research innovation in 1973 through their ‘evolution’ into an educational tool as Wisconsin Fast Plants ®. Emphasis will be made on strategic decisions of design and implementation that has enabled their wide use in K>16 education.

Broader Impacts:
Strategic elements of design and implementation relating to broader impact are: 1) feasibility [why use it?, is it tied to assessed learning goals?]; 2) adoptability [what will it cost in time and $, including professional development?]; 3)adaptability [can it evolve?]; 4) sustainability [in class, school, and district], and 5) communicating all of the above [www, networking and print].
