Colloquia: Emerging Results from Studies of Gymnosperms on the Tree of Life II

Havill, Nathan [1].

Phylogeny and biogeography of Tsuga.

Hemlock, Tsuga (Pinaceae), has a disjunct distribution in North America and Asia. To examine the biogeographic history of Tsuga, phylogenetic relationships among all hemlock species were inferred using chloroplast and ITS DNA sequences, and likelihood-based biogeographic inference with divergence time estimates were used to infers ancestral geographic ranges. The results of these analyses will be discussed, as well as progress towards delineating Asian species using morphology.
