Abstract Detail
The Scientific Research of Barry Tomlinson Holbrook, Noel [1]. Structure and function of monocot vascular systems. Monocot vascular systems have undergone an extensive renovation compared to other seed plants that has profound implications on their structure and functioning. Foremost among these are the limited ability to add new conduits and the packaging of xylem and phloem into discrete, fiber enclosed, vascular bundles. This talk examines biomechanical and hydraulic correlates of monocot vascular architecture, with an emphasis on the support and supply of leaves and the prevention/repair of embolism.
